The two walls could not be less alike, and that is the whole picture. On the left, a smooth salmon-red wall with two brass gas lanterns burning on brackets and boxwood clipped along its base. On the right, a much older wall — stucco failing off it in patches with the brick showing through underneath, an arched doorway set into it, shrubs in planters at the foot. Between them the cobbles run away to a bright opening at the far end.
