Coleman Gallery Watercolor
A Charleston sidewalk rendered as a watercolor.
This one is different from everything else in the collection: it is a painted treatment rather than a straight photograph, worked so the edges soften and the colors flatten out the way they would on paper. The subject is a gallery front — an oval sign hanging from an ornate iron bracket, two gas lanterns on the wall beneath it, planters of sago palm and flowers set out along the sidewalk, window boxes above them.
Soft-edged and bright. It sits with paintings rather than with photographs, which is the point of it.
