The Carriage
A carriage on a Charleston street, in black and white.
The carriage is empty apart from the driver — no passengers, no tour running — which is unusual to catch and is what lifts it past a postcard. It sits side-on with its fringed canopy and tall spoked wheels, the animal in harness just starting to pull. Behind it, past a plain stuccoed side wall, stands a Victorian house with a conical turret, iron balconies and a palmetto in front. Crosswalk markings run across the road.
Black and white, and quite still. A working street rather than a tourist scene.
