An old groin running straight out to sea, with the water gone to mist.

The structure runs from the bottom of the frame dead up the middle and out to a vanishing point on the horizon — timber pilings capped with a beam, foam dried white along the top of it. On both sides the exposure has taken the sea apart completely. There is no surface left, only a flat white mist with dark rocks standing up out of it. Above, the cloud is streaked pink and orange over deep blue.

One line, straight out, into nothing. About as close to abstract as a beach gets.
