A great egret in full display, in the branches over the water.

This is not a bird preening. The neck is folded right back on itself, the bill is pointed straight up at the sky, and the long filamentous plumes off its back are fanned out and standing away from the body in every direction, spread wide enough to nearly double its apparent size. The bare skin in front of the eye has gone bright green. It is holding the posture deliberately.

White on dark green, vertical. One of the few frames here of an animal doing something rather than simply being somewhere.
