Tomotely Plantation II
The road down through the oaks at Tomotley Plantation.
Shot straight down the middle, the avenue closes overhead into a tunnel — two rows of oaks leaning in until their limbs meet, moss hanging the whole length of the canopy, light coming through from the far end where it finally opens out. The road itself is packed sand with leaf litter drifted along both edges, and there is a strip of mown grass either side of it before the trunks begin.
The oak avenues on this property were planted in 1820, which makes the trees standing over that road a little over two hundred years old.
Symmetrical, green, and deep. It pulls the eye a long way in, which is why it wants a big print.
