Standing at this angle compresses the houses into a single stepped run of color — yellow, then green, then white, then pink — instead of the flat view most people take. The nearest house carries a curved wrought-iron balcony with scrollwork underneath that catches the light. Window boxes run below the sills, planted and spilling over. A crepe myrtle stands to the right, its bark gone smooth and mottled.

The colors are not original, and people are often surprised by that. The thirteen houses were painted as they were restored through the 1930s and 1940s, and the name came afterwards.

Vertical, warm, and full of small detail. It gives a hallway something to look at.
