Sunrise on the Water
Sunrise over the water with the tide pouring back off the rocks.
The foreground is the whole picture — a sheet of white water spilling over a rock shelf and running toward the camera, held long enough by the exposure to read as continuous rather than choppy. The sun is only just up, small and hard, and it has thrown a vertical flare running straight up and down through the frame. Above it the sky is purple. At the horizon it is deep orange.
A lot of motion low and a lot of calm high. It works large, where the water has room to move.
