Shem Creek Sunset
Shem Creek looking out toward the harbor at sunset.
The boats are gathered on the left — two shrimp trawlers at the dock with rigging and nets up, sailboat masts behind them — and the right two thirds of the frame is given over to open water and sky. The cloud is heavy blue-grey with a hard break of orange burning through on the right, and the creek underneath carries that gold back in broken pieces. A single channel marker stands out in the middle of the water.
Weighted to one side deliberately. Blue-grey and orange, and it gives the eye somewhere to rest.
