Shem Creek Shack
The old shack out over the marsh at Shem Creek, Mount Pleasant.
The building is the whole reason for the frame — cedar shingles gone silver-brown, a rust-red metal roof, two plain windows, standing up on pilings with the marsh running underneath it. Behind it the masts of the boats in the creek stack up against the sky. In front, the marsh grass runs in a broad green band and then breaks open into tidal pools that are holding the pink out of the cloud.
Pink, green, and weathered wood. It reads as a specific place rather than a coastline.
