Most pier pictures put the pier in the middle. This one pushes it away to the right and keeps it small, and gives the frame to the beach instead — the wash coming in across the sand on a long diagonal, softened by the exposure into a single pale sweep, with clumps of foam left behind on the ridges to the right. The sky is salmon and lavender, textured, with gold sitting low at the horizon.
